International migration in Latin America has increased substantially since the second half of the twentieth century. There are various factors that influence this type of migration. Be it for economic, social or political motives, these transnational movements change the family at its core. The purpose of this essay is to highlight the social changes that affect the family looking more closely at the perspective of those who stay in the country. The consequences span from the disintegration or restructuration of the family to new participatory roles for women. This essay will study those effects in Guatemala as a result of its migratory history and its key location in the Central American migration processes.Desde la segunda mitad del siglo veinte las migraciones internacionales en América Latina han aumentado considerablemente. Ya sea por motivos económicos, sociales o políticos, estos movimientos transnacionales cambian el entorno más íntimo de la familia del emigrante. El propósito de este ensayo es destacar los cambios sociales que sufre el núcleo familiar - ...Desde la segunda mitad del siglo veinte las migraciones internacionales en América Latina han aumentado considerablemente. Ya sea por motivos económicos, sociales o políticos, estos movimientos transnacionales cambian el entorno más íntimo de la familia del emigrante. El propósito de este ensayo es destacar los cambios sociales que sufre el núcleo familiar - mujeres y niños - precisamente de la perspectiva de quienes se quedan. Este cambio puede proyectar como transformación, una desintegración o reestructuración de la familia, inseguridad, perdida de roles masculinos y posibles nuevos roles participativos en el caso de la mujer. El país que se toma como modelo es Guatemala, debido a su historia migratoria y su ubicación clave en los procesos migratorios en Centroamérica.Programa Domeyko
